Q1 What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?
I surprised myself by actually embracing all this technology, starting about 10 years ago. I have 3 powerhouse computers plus a laptop for travel, 4 digital cameras, too many photo programs to count, an iPod touch...and inches away from getting the iPhone. Only putting it off because of the entire aggravation/learning curve that comes with each new "toy". As we all know, every one of these things can bring you a lot of grief but among other things, I've learned to change out hard drives, videos cards...and how to restore my toys, when all else fails.....Learned how to dig deep into the "bowels" of computers to figure out a problem, rather than pay someone to screw up my computer. One tech lost around 10,000 of my images and still had the nerve to charge me a few hundred dollars for doing so.
Q2 What are some of your most memorable experiences?
It is a given that raising and having a family has to be the most memorable of experiences, since it lasts a lifetime. And it just keeps giving you more experiences with grandchildren and in-laws from every direction. But in addition to that, some of my most memorable experiences have been in climbing mountains or exploring a new destination. Mike and I still love to travel. After about 17 trips to Hawaii, we finally branched out and now enjoy getting on a cruise boat and letting everyone take care of us. Some cities that we have really enjoyed pre-cruise have been Manhattan, NY, Brooklyn, NY and Vancouver, BC. On foot, we vigorously explored these cities. Loved them!
Q3 What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?
My father brought us up to be workers, so I do find it hard not to do some kind of manual labor as much as possible. I feel lazy if I'm not producing. So when I'm not working on something, even if it's pulling weeds, I still have Mike pushing me to walk, walk, walk and ride bicycles. I don't know if I can keep up the pace this year but last year our longest ride in one day was about 45 miles. Thank goodness it was a cloudy day! So other than work or exercise, there are no hobbies....except photography....which I don't think of as a hobby. It is a part of me.
Q4 What are some of the major changes in your life?
Getting old is major and it is not a pretty picture, mirror wise. Health wise, I am doing very, very well except for the usual extra pounds I continue to carry around, for company, I guess. No medications, yet. The wise men who are Mike's customers at the barber shop have told him that the hardest part about growing old is accepting loss....I agree. It is loss that pulls me down the hardest.
Personal narrative 2011 Hoping that everyone has a wonderful time at the reunion. It is so nice that so many people put all this hard work into organizing it! Kudos to all of them.
