Q1 What are some of your positive and some of your negative
experiences with modern technology?
I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a photographer, illustrator, and
graphic designer for 16 years. In my
last few years, as a senior designer, I was given an Apple computer to do
graphics. Not being a typist, it took me
four times longer to do any typesetting or design work. Because it was not compatible with any of the
Hewlett-Packard computers, nothing could be transposed or sent between
computers. This great technological
“advance” became the most frustrating and career-ending time of my working
life. To this day, I hate computers!
Q2 What are some of your most memorable experiences?
As an officer in the Corp of Engineers in the U.S. Army, I spent some
time jumping out of airplanes with the 101st Airborne. I also served two tours in Vietnam working
with the South Koreans in a Combat Tactical Operations Center near Cam Ranh Bay. All was
not so bad however, as I was able to take R&R’s to Australia, Hong Kong,
and twice to Japan. For extending for a
second tour, the Army sent me on a 44-day, around the world trip, including a
lot of Europe, Israel, India, and Thailand.
Q3 What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?
I still bowl in leagues and have averaged 215 or higher for more than
20 years. I was the first bowler in
Loveland to have an 800 series. I have
had other 800’s along with several 300 games and at least ten 299’s, but that
first 800 was special.
The other thing I collect is 1957 Chevy model cars. With over 100, and growing, it has become
quite a unique collection. I owned a
real 57 Chevy that I bought from
David Morris in about 1963. It was my
favorite car, but unfortunately, I sold it before entering the military in
1965.
Q4 What are some of the major changes in your life?
I met my wife, Kathy, at a place called the Merry-Axe, a nightclub
here in Loveland. It has not existed for
a long time, but in 1970, it was “the” place with great bands, good music, and
dancing. Kathy was teaching art and
humanities at Loveland High and had gone to CSU, which is where I was
going. We will celebrate our 39th
anniversary on a cruise up the Inside Passage of Alaska with some of our
classmates this September.
In 2012, Kathy and I will be toasting 20 years of putting together and
escorting small groups to Europe (mostly).
We have specialized in countries like Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Spain,
and the British Isles, but have traveled to many others. I have been in all 50 states and over 50
foreign countries, yet I still enjoy traveling the world.
