Q1 What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?
The technology I enjoy the most is the Internet. I enjoy E-mail as I am able to communicate with folks that I have known for a loooong time, ones that I had lost track of and ones that I have just met. It allows us to share thoughts and photos. The internet allows almost the instant ability to research questions one is wondering about.
Of course, the negative side of that are the long phone calls with support when you have a problem. I just love to talk to someone in India or some other country where English is not their first language and helping you isn’t as big a concern as getting a problem closed even if it isn’t fixed! On the other hand I do get enjoyment out of hounding them until they do fix my problem. The funny thing about this is that American companies, for example Microsoft, use this off shore support, but when I call Canon for printer support it is in the United States. Go figure!!!!!!
Q2 What are some of your most memorable experiences?
Lucking out finding Peggy in High School and convincing her to marry me!!
Celebrating 50 wonderful married years with the love of my life, the wonder of Children and Grand Children, working for one company for 40 years, swimming with Manta Rays in Hawaii and watching a hummingbird laying her eggs and seeing her babies learn to fly
Q3 What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?
Spend quiet time with Peggy.
See the Rocky Mountains.
I still love to work on old cars (they weren’t near as old when I started working on them!!!) Plan and work on almost any project. Play a little golf. Love to fly fish, but seems like now it is mainly in my mind. I volunteer for a group in Tucson called “Old Pueblo Trolley.” I work with the bus group restoring old Tucson transit buses. We finished a 1938 Yellow coach and are currently working a 1946 Ford and a 1928 Twin Coach. The Ford is one of the few that were V8 powered. The Twin Coach is unique in that it had 2 big 6 cylinder engines powering it.
I also volunteer and am co-chair (Peggy’s really the Boss I am only her semi- able assistant) for a group called Snack Pack which packs lunches for disadvantage kids so they have food on the weekends. We do this for 2 schools providing lunches for 150 children. Next year we are adding another school. Hard to believe that there are that many children in our city (or in the United States for that matter) that need this kind of help!
Q4 What are some of the major changes in your life?
Well lets see, hummmmmm. It isn’t that my hair fell out; it isn’t that I am impatient; it isn’t that I can’t see a lick without my specs; it isn’t that I am not the Best Looking Stud around. I guess it could be that I am retired or live in a Sunny warm place that I don’t have to worry about shoveling snow OR it could be that I can only work about 4 hours and then I need a nap OR that now Peggy has to chase me around the bed instead visa versa OR it could be that when I get off a chair I look like an airplane taking off in that it takes me a few steps to get completely vertical and a few more steps before my joints quit creaking and smooth out.
But, it definitely is that we can stay as long as we want any place because we don’t have to be back to work or follow a schedule any longer; in other words WE ARE RETIRED!
Personal narrative 2011:
A personal narrative????? Now what is that? Webster says it is the “act or example of narrating”! Must be I can tell a story or just BS a little. Now, I am an expert in BS-ing. In fact, in my case, it is an inherited trait, I do believe.
About the only thing I can think of is to wonder how I got here this fast from 1961. It didn’t seem so fast while I was on the journey, but it sure does as I look back. I look at pictures from our wedding and wonder who those kids are? And then I look at current pictures of friends and wonder who all those old people are??? I guess I wasn’t paying enough attention as time went by. It is hard for Peggy and I to realize our chronological age because in our minds we dont think we are any older than 50 at the most!!! It scares the bejesus out of me when I count the years up because, if we are that old, I used to think folks that age were over the hill! I can’t be over the hill because when I look back I can still see the bottom of the hill and if you were over the hill you wouldn’t be able to still see the bottom!!
See what I said about BSing! I may not be the best one, but I am an expert!!!
Seriously over the years since we left LHS I have often thought about friends and classmates. I mostly think of all the things we accomplished together and fun we had. Fond memories that we continue to add to! We are looking forward to seeing everyone!
