Q1 What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?

Most of my experiences are on the negative side. I don't have an I-Pod, a blackberry, a droid, a smart phone (all my phone does is allow me to receive and make phone calls). Do you see a trend here? Why, I don't even have cable or satellite TV. Just sending pictures of my family for this book caused more grief than I want.

Q2 What are some of your most memorable experiences?

1. Meeting and marrying the love of my life.

2. Becoming a father twice.

3. Watching my daughters grow to womanhood.

4. Riding in a subway with my daughter, Gayleen, under the World Trade Center one week to the hour prior to their collapse.

5. Walking each of my daughters down the aisle at their weddings.

6. Holding each of my granddaughters on the day they born.

Q3 What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?

Eileen and I have been active with our trailer club and enjoy camping. We sing in our church choir and are active in church activities. We are lucky to have our granddaughters living less than a 1/2 hour away and get to babysit generally one day a week when mommy works part-time. We also enjoy playing bridge with friends.

Q4 What are some of the major changes in your life?

I suppose the major change in my life is growing older, but I don't regret that.

Personal narrative 2011: I have been married to Eileen for 46 years now. We have two daughters, Gayleen and Pam, two granddaughters, Grace and Fiona. Gayleen Carpenter is a graduate physical therapist married to Howie who is a project manager at Hach Company here in Loveland. Pam Freeland is an Air Force pilot married to Jeff, an Air Force doctor, who commands the medical and dental unit at McConnell AFB, Wichita, KS. Pam is stationed there also. Both are Lt. Colonels and each making a career with the Air Force.

I spent over 33 years with the Colorado Revenue Department as a revenue agent (yes, someone has to do it). It is probably an oddity that I started work as a revenue agent and retired as a revenue agent with the same department. I had different titles over the years, starting as a trainee and ending as a group supervisor, but all having to do with tax auditing for the State of Colorado.

Eileen's career, besides being a mom to two daughters, entailed several years working with CSU Extension Service in Arapahoe County, a short time with the American Cancer Society and several years with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in charge of the national comprehensive CFP exam given three times annually.

Our work careers kept us living in Littleton, but in 1997, prior to my retirement, we moved to Loveland and have enjoyed our time here. A lot has happened over these last 50 years, but I have regretted none of it.
