Q1    What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?

Positive - The convenience of "on the spot" information & communication as well as directions to most anywhere.  It is hard to remember what it was like without cell phones, computers, Garmin, microwaves, automatic timers on everything & touch button music.

Negative - The never ending turnaround of new & better & more convenient.  I just finally learn & get used to using the latest & greatest & think, "oh boy", this will last the rest of my life & "bamm", a new update comes out & now mine is obsolete!  Also with all the computerized technology on cars now, we can no longer work on our own car, so repair bills & replacement costs for all modern technology are a bottomless pit for the consumer.

Q2    What are some of your most memorable experiences?

Giving birth to and raising 5 children - their baptisms, 1st communions, confirmations, birthday parties, school & sports events, high school plays, choir concerts, 4H, horse shows, fair, their weddings & arrival of grand children, camping & fishing trips & vacations with them & their families.  Most memorable trips have included Italy, Mexico, Connecticut, Maine, New York City, Cape Cod, Lake Tahoe, Oregon, California, Florida, and most recently Minnesota where we hunted mushrooms for the 1st time.  Having open heart surgery to replace the mitral valve is pretty memorable!  The most recent memory is our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration.  We took our family to Glenwood Springs for 3 days and went rafting for the 1st time.  I also rode the zip line across the raging Colorado River.  I didn't do the high ropes course or the 40 ft climbing wall but Don did.  He was the oldest, as of that day, to do that challenge, and then the party our kids threw for us after the "great adventure" in Glenwood.

Q3    What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?

I enjoy hand crafts, especially sewing & knitting.  For my retirement years, my goal is to knit prayer shawls & do charity knitting with my knitting machines.  I joined the prayer shawl group at church and also the rosary makers group; we make shawls for the sick and infirmed of our parish & make rosaries for missions.  I am a member of the church choir.  I just finished the 4-yr Bible study course with the Denver Catholic Biblical School.  We enjoy square dancing & belong to the Foot & Fiddle Square Dance Club in Loveland.  We also still enjoy camping and love going with our kids and their families.  Eating out is our biggest hobby!

Q4    What are some of the major changes in your life?

Getting married, being a parent; the "empty nest syndrome" was a biggy.  Some of my kids moved out abruptly & some moved out gradually with planning.  When the last one left, I actually went through a period of mourning.  Then learning to be a mother-in-law & grandparent and not a butinski - wow- still working on that one!  Oh yah, what about learning to use modern technology, especially the computer & all its accessories.  How do you use that I-Pod & I-Pad & what are APPS?!!  What about new meanings for words - like "thongs", which will always be sandals to me - the weird looks I get when I use these old words for what they mean to me!  Last, but not least, retirement, of course.  Even though I always looked forward to retiring & being able to do whatever, I find it difficult to discipline myself into a productive routine without the structure of a time clock & a specific work schedule.  My mind just wants to stay in vacation mode!

Personal narrative 2011:      These questions brought to mind how full my life has been.  Thank you for stirring up those memories.  I am prone to thinking I didn't do much with my live for the Lord, but after putting much of it down on paper, I am humbled and Thank God for all the blessings and the opportunities he has given me to share His love with everyone and everything He places in my life.
