I've decided that my most special achievement in 62 years is associating with high quality people who may move in and out of my life, but always remain in my heart. I attended Loveland High School for only one year, but it was a very special year and I am so grateful for those memories.  Reading the biographies on this website is rather surreal because I still think of my Loveland High classmates as tenth graders! I know that I've gotten older (lots older) since I saw most of you, but I just assumed you all were still riding around on custom painted Vespas and decorating floats for Rag Day!!  Instead, you have grown older along with me (thank you for doing that!) and have had life experiences we couldn't even dream of in tenth grade.

In 1967 I faced my biggest challenge when my husband of almost 4 years (Roger Warren) was shot and killed by a 16 year old sniper.  Roger received his discharge from the Air Force in the fall of 1966 and we moved back to the San Fernando Valley (from Albuquerque).  He filled out his paperwork for the Los Angeles Police Department and started the academy in January 1967.  Five months later.... two weeks after he graduated from the academy...he was shot and killed while still behind the wheel of his patrol car. (The sniper was killed by other officers who had responded to the "officer down" call.) Roger was a special person to all who knew him.  Our daughter, Kelley, was just 2 when he was killed but we have stayed close to Roger's family and they have been a great source of memories of her Dad.

A year and a half later the LAPD came through for me again when another one of their finest was introduced to me at a party.  Russ and I have now been married for 37 years and we have 2 daughters in addition to Kelley. I knew early in our dating experience that he, too, was a special person because of the instant bond he formed with Kelley.  It's amazing to me that Kelley and Russ have never referred to each other as stepfather or stepdaughter and our 3 girls don't think of themselves as half-sisters. Kelley is now 41 (yipes), is happily divorced and has a 10-year-old son (Chase) and an 8-year-old daughter (Jenna).  They live less than a mile from us and the kids attend the same grade school their mother did gazillion years ago.  Kelley is a court reporter at the San Fernando Courthouse.  Tracey is 36 and is a legal assistant for a large appellate law firm. Her husband, Rob, is CFO for an insurance group and he's been one of my favorite people since he was 9 years old so he has always been part of our family.  They have a daughter who's 9 (Lauren) and a son who's 6 (Justin). They live in the Stevenson Ranch area about 30 minutes away.  Our youngest, Shelley, is 31 and living at home again after moving back from Boulder.  She is in her final year at California Lutheran College and is aiming at a career as a forensic psychologist.  Russ retired on April 1st after more than 38 years on the LAPD with the last 20 + years as a detective in the Organized Crime and Vice Division.  We're still adjusting to being constant companions...being together morning, noon and night, eating each and every meal together, looking over each others shoulders to be sure we're doing things the right way, asking "What's in the bags?" when I come home from shopping......... all that really fun stuff......... Help... aren't we too young to become our parents??!!?  As for me...oops.... no time for news of me cuz I used it all up on my family news!  Now that I think of it, that's the way it's been all these years.  Yes, I had a job for 16 years; yes, I am involved with an organization that rescues kittens and cats (and have adopted a few); yes, I have a craft room where occasionally I explode with creativity (?).... Hmmm.Maybe I did take a few minutes for myself along the way...it all went by so fast!!

I would like to share the following trivia (as described below) with or about my fellow classmates on this Class of 1961 Web Site:

Narrative:

Thanks to Connie for keeping me in the information loop.....I appreciate it so very much!!  Thank you to Liane for the great after school root beer floats, for playing the piano every time I asked her to (my favorite song was "If I Loved You") and for having sweet grandparents named Gobby and Daddy Buddy cuz it was fun just saying their names.  I will always miss Cindy Watkins...she came to visit Kelley and I after Roger was killed and it was such an emotional boost.  She always had exciting and sometimes "shady" things to tell me...such as that her boyfriend couldn't be in Las Vegas longer than 24 hours unless he notified the police department.  I was sad to hear that Nolan Larson had passed away cuz he was my secret crush back then and he wrote in my year book that he and Dave May were going to come to California on his Vespa to visit me...they never did but it was fun to think about.  My last bit of trivia is...one night when the snow was very deep, some of us "girls" (I can't name names because I don't remember who was there...I know that I didn't do this alone, however!).... Anyway...we threw a few snowballs at the home of Liane's crazy neighbors (Jim and Morrie?) and as I recall, someone also pitched an old tube of lipstick up on the roof. That was the noise that got Jim's attention and caused him to stand on his porch and yell at us as we all ran for cover. We were all laughing so it must have been fun!!
