Narrative:
After
spending about an hour reading everyone elses biographies, I decided to change
mine. I realized I didn't give much info on what I have been doing for 45
years! After high school I worked at Johnson's Corner for two years and met my
husband to be there. He was a Colo. Highway Patrolman and stopped in for coffee
and lunch occasionally. We were married in 1966 in Denver at the City and
County Building by a criminal court judge! He has three children from his first
marriage and we have two daughters together. There are ten grandchildren
(including step-grandchildren) and five great grandchildren. Each of our
daughters has one son. Shelly (a homemaker who lives in Rocky Ford, CO) has
Hunter, age four and Michelle (a funeral director for Allnutt Funeral Services
in Loveland for 12 years) has Jonathan who will be seventeen in three weeks
(June 27). I went to cosmetology school when Michelle started first grade. I
graduated in 1975 from Emily Griffith and then worked for Michael of the
Carlyle for almost six years as a Manager of their Northglenn Salon. I then
opened my own salon, The Master Stylists Inc. in Westminster. I operated there
for eight years. In 1989 we moved back to Loveland to retire, but I couldn't
stand not working. I went back to work in 1990 and worked thirteen more years
at Salon 1941 and Scruples salon. I then retired from there on my 60th
birthday. I have been working part time at my home in a salon in my basement
that Merle built for me. Merle has been retired from his last self owned
business for 13 years. Last November, he was diagnosed with AML (Acute
Myelogenous Leukemia) He underwent chemotherapy in December for a week in
Presbyterian/St. Luke Hospital in Denver. It did not put him into remission.
His options were not very hopeful for any improvement, so he opted to come home
for his last months. He is still with me and doing fairly well. We have good
and bad days, but are coping as well as we can. I really enjoy the opportunity
to work with the reunion committee and plan these shindigs for all of our
classmates. Hope you all come and have a great time!
I would like
to share the following trivia (as described below) with or about my fellow
classmates on this Class of 1961 Web Site.
Narrative:
I have a few
dear friends who come to me for their haircuts and good conversation. Sally
Tretheway Moninger, Joellen Hixson Henthorn, Darla Ellis, Judy Maisch Jacobs
(class of 64) and a few years ago, Betty Helzer Medina and Sandy Lange Jensen.
Sally, Joellen and Darla live nearby and we have lunch occasionally. Rae Patterson
was living here a year ago and she also came for haircuts and joined us for
lunches. My best friend for 50 years, Phyllis Henderson, and I have taken a few
trips together (Santa Fe and Tucson) and still laugh and talk on the computer
almost daily. When Sharen and Karen come home to Loveland to see their Mom, we
also make sure to have an afternoon together lunching and reminiscing. I also
keep in touch with several other classmates regularly via the computer, Genny
Marcon, Charly Bullock, Kurt Fisher, Liane Ellinoff, Nicky Davis, Bill and
Diane Zeiler and my good pal Larry Harvey.
