Q1    What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?

I love all the new technology that is available today!  I use the Internet and email daily, and travel with my laptop.  I read Facebook to keep up with my grandchildren, and have an iPod that I listen to when Im cleaning house.  It helps my disposition if I keep my mind off the mess!  I also have a Smartphone and keep all my contact information in it.  It’s very handy if I’m traveling and just want to check my email quickly.  There is so much information available at my fingertips.

On the negative side, I constantly remind myself that everything I read on the Internet is not necessarily true, so I still have to check the source of the information.

Q2    What are some of your most memorable experiences?

The most recent was the cruise we took last October to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.  Seventeen of our family and friends went with us, and it was just wonderful.

Since we retired in 2005, we’ve spent 6 months in Hawaii as well as returning several times since then.

We’ve traveled as far east as New York, visited the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.

We’ve gone as far west as Vancouver, Canada, then south to Los Angeles, San Diego, and a week at a villa in Puerto Vallarta.

We’ve been back to Colorado every year since we’ve moved to Tucson and have had many wonderful visits with friends and family.

I married my stud-muffin husband Max and we have two great children and three wonderful grandchildren.

Q3    What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?

I do a great deal of volunteer work since I retired.  I work with people who are living with HIV/AIDS.  Max and I pack weekend meal bags for hungry children in Tucson during the school year.  I am also active in our church as a Steven Minister and am currently chairing the Adult Education team.  These activities give me great satisfaction and joy.

A little over a year ago I decided to learn to quilt and have taken classes to learn the skills necessary.  I have finished a number of quilt tops, but I havent yet finished an entire quilt!  Its good to have a goal, though, and I hope to learn to finish an entire quilt.

I play “at” golf, but I sure wouldn’t’ call myself a golfer.  Still, it's nice to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine with no phones or TV around, so I keep swinging.

Q4    What are some of the major changes in your life?

Certainly retirement is a major change.  Im always so busy I dont know how I ever found time to work.   The big differences are that everything I do is something I choose to do, and I can take off any time I want for as long as I want.

Our grandchildren growing up and finishing school seems unreal to me.  I think they should still be coming over to our house to play with Legos!

Moving from Colorado to Arizona was a major change for both Max and me.  We just got tired of the snow and cold weather, so we headed for a warmer climate.  Our daughter Tommie recently moved to Bend, Oregon, and I’m looking forward to visiting her when it’s over 100 degrees in Tucson!

I’m still in denial about my age; I don’t think I’m a day over 50.  I feel sadness as I lose people who are dear to me, and I guess that will only increase as the years go on.  Still, I cherish the many friends I’ve had for years and the new ones I continue to make.  I’m so lucky to have married and loved Max for all these years, and to enjoy being with our children and grandchildren.
