Q1    What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?

I really don't care to spend too much time with technology.  I know it is important and the wave of the future, but it is so much more rewarding and lasting to spend time face to face, on the phone, or with handwritten cards and letters. I still have letters from my grandmother and mother written many years ago and can almost imagine them there when I read through those letters written by their hand. Sorry, but emails just don't make the grade for personal communication.  Technology is great for leaving messages, mass and timely communication, and informational communication.  All things have a purpose.  We just have to use the right methods for each purpose.

Q2    What are some of your most memorable experiences?

Since I can remember back to being 2 years old, I have a lot of memories.  I have a lot of fun memories growing up in the 50's and 60's.  My dad had sawmills, so we always got to spend the summers in the mountains.  I also remember the fun times at school.  I started first grade at Lincoln, then moved to Bailey, Colorado at Christmas time.  At Bailey, there were 3 classes (1-4, 5-8, 9-12) plus a big hall where we met each morning and said a prayer, said the pledge of allegiance, and sang songs.  My favorite song was Little Brown Church in the Vale.  Can you imagine kids doing those things at school now? When I was in 4th grade, I came back to Lincoln.  I remember several things about that!  First, my teacher was Esther Bailey.  She had been at that school since the early 1900's.  Every morning she read a story from a big bible book.  That is how I learned most of the bible stories I knew.  I loved it!  Then, at noon, we each got a half piece of brown paper towel, and went down to the lunch room in the basement.  There was a huge circular fountain that we all stood around and washed our hands, then went to sit on benches at the tables.  If we ate our all our food, we could raise our hand and get another peanut butter sandwich.  The next year, the new Garfield school opened and our two fifth grades had Mrs. Lane and Mrs. Robinson for teachers.  The next year we had Mrs. Mason and Mrs. Walters.  Remember Mrs. Walters had been to Africa and had that big Python snake skin that she rolled out when she did her Africa speech?  Many of us went on together throughout high school.  Loveland High was 7th through 12th grade at that time, so we were in that building for a long time.  I remember much, much more about school and classmates and teachers, but figure I have said enough for now! (a wonderful Halloween party at Sharon David Veit's when we were in first grade; walking to school with Carolyn Haering Shively, sometimes walking home with Connie George  Bernhardt, stopping by the "little store" for ice cream....) I look forward to visiting with you at the reunion- or email me with some of your fond memories!  (Playing dodge ball at recess at Garfield, going to the football games in high school, watching all the rag day skits, etc, etc.)

Q3    What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?

I work a lot!  I am a Realtor here in Loveland and enjoy that.  Other than that, I have a lot of collections.  That way, when I have time, I can just look at my collections!

I do enjoy reading.  I always had to finish a book when I started it.  I used to check out books from the library and read at least one that night.

I still do that.  When I start a book, I finish it that night before I go to sleep.

I like gardening some, but mostly leave the work to Marv.  I like to eat the fresh garden produce- and I do like canning and making jams and jellies.

Marv has antique cars-1909, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15-.  Again, he does the work- I just ride along on tours.

We also like to hunt for artifacts and arrowheads, etc.

My favorite activity of all is spending time with some of the eleven grandchildren.  That way I can still play!

Q4    What are some of the major changes in your life?

I have grown old.  I don't want to- and have been fighting it every step of the way, but you know the alternative to growing old......so I am just thankful to be as old as I am and still here to enjoy life!

Personal narrative 2011       I think I can say that I remember everyone in our class- both the ones that we finally made it through to graduation together and some who went other directions over the years.  I hope everyone fills in some of their favorite memories of the years we all spent together, whether you are able to come to the reunion or not.  This is one way that technology is a good thing!  It will be great to hear from everyone!!
