Q1    What are some of your positive and some of your negative experiences with modern technology?

It’s amazing how far technology has come since I was little.  I remember we were practically the first on our block to get a black and white TV. Now I’m not up with my boys or even my 10 year old granddaughter when it comes to using the computer or my cell phone. My phone doesn’t do any more than receive or send calls. That’s about all I need. Technology is amazing, and I would probably use it more if I needed it.

Q2    What are some of your most memorable experiences?

There certainly are a lot of memorable experiences in one’s life, growing up with wonderful parents (Carl & Viola), going to school in a great town (Loveland); having many great friendships; going to a near-by college (CSC/UNC); marrying a terrific guy (Rich) and staying married for 46 years(this year); traveling to some interesting places; having four fantastic sons (Tim, Mike, Steve & Derrick) and three lovely daughter-in-laws (Jena, Keila & Charlene); enjoying three beautiful grand-children (Taylor, Rylie & Sydney); teaching elementary school in Littleton for 27 years; being retired for 6 years from that regular job and now getting to choose what things interest me.

One of the more memorable things in my junior high and high school life was going on a Home EC field trip to J.C. Penney in 8th grade, skidding on their oiled wooden floors, catching myself with my elbow breaking the glass plate around the table display. Blood everywhere!  We went out the back door, down the alley to the doctor’s office on Lincoln. My very first stitches!

Of course, the many Rag Day competitions; Pep Club activities; choir practices, programs and evaluations; as well as many high school friendships were among the best experiences I had at LHS. Some of my worst experiences were getting caught for running or being noisy in the hall, not turning in my science book before school, trying to learn Spanish and Chemistry and having a very long walk home from school.

Q3    What fun activities/hobbies, etc. do you participate in?

At this point in my life I like to be with the family, cook and bake, crochet, sing, work part-time by tutoring students, volunteer at my granddaughter’s school, participate in a year-long Bible study, attend CU football games, enjoy viewing the stars and planets and have an occasional get away to Estes Park.

Q4    What are some of the major changes in your life?

In November of 2001 I had a strep/staff infection on my ankle that took me out of the classroom for the majority of the year. After skin graft and therapy, I taught the next year, but in 2005 had a reoccurrence which resulted in my retirement. That was a major change in my life after having taught for all those years. There have been major changes all along this life journey, and I’m sure there will be more ahead. I hope I’ll be strong enough to face them when they arrive.

Personal narrative 2011:      After graduating from high school I attended Colorado State College and received my BA and MA in Elementary Education. There I became a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, met my future husband, Rich Krening, a member of Acacia fraternity. We were married after graduation in 1965 and moved to Littleton. In the fall I started teaching 1st grade for Littleton Public Schools where I continued until 1972 when our first son, Tim, was born. Almost every two years after Tim, we then added Mike, Steve, and Derrick.  In 1986 I returned to the Littleton Schools as a 3rd grade then a 2nd grade teacher retiring from there in 2005 after 27 years.  Now I am tutoring for a Longmont company called Tutor Train and am active in our church.

Rich started out as an elementary school teacher in the Denver Public Schools.  After seven years he joined the sales team with Franklin Life Insurance Co. That led to several other companies over the years which have provided us the opportunity to attend many wonderful convention trips. He has not retired at this time, but is slowing down to enjoy his golf and be an amateur astronomer.

Tim worked construction, like my dad, for quite a few years. Because of his interest in physical fitness, he became a licensed Personal Trainer. He is married to Jena who is a manager at Nordstrom in our area. They are the parents of Taylor and Sydney.  Mike and Keila just got married in June and now live in California. He is the manager of a distribution center for Nordstrom. She is hoping to finish her dental hygienist classes out there. Steve is a patient advocate for Conifer Health Solutions at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver. He has a degree in Theological Studies which might lead to ministry some day. Derrick and his wife Charlene have worked at Comcast for the last six years and live in Castle Rock. They are the parents of Rylie.

In 2000 we were blessed with our first granddaughter, Taylor, who will be in 6th grade this fall. Rylie, our next grandchild, surprised everyone in 2007 when he was born at 26 weeks weighing in at 2 lbs 3oz.  Now he is a healthy, active 4 year old who looks a little small for his age, but will catch up. He’s our expert on Thomas the Train! In 2009 Taylor’s sister, Sydney, joined the group of grandchildren. With her big blue eyes and demanding personality, she will rule the world when she gets her language understood. We certainly have been blessed with wonderful children and grandchildren!
